This Little Cookie's shortbread cookie

While at Rainbow Grocery yesterday, I spied a tall package of a dozen shortbread cookies that looked good. They are made by This Little Cookie. Molasses cookies are also available. I wasn't sure about buying the large package of what surely were expensive cookies (no price on display) that I had never tried, so I was happy to see a package of 4 at the checkout stand. I bought the small package instead.

These shortbread cookies are nothing short of outstanding. For me, they are the Platonic ideal of the shortbread cookie. They have the perfect sweet/salty (she uses fleur de sel), perfect buttery-ness, and perfect color and texture. Best cookie I have had in eons, and I sent them a note telling them so. Turns out that This Little Cookie is a company started by a (current) baker at Tartine. Her bio says she's also worked with Michael Recchiuti and at Chez Panisse. She does special order cakes and other goods too. Her damn shortbread cookie has made a believer out of me.

I have zero connection to the business and I don't know the owner or anyone connected with it, just to be clear.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to post some pictures of three recent cakes I have done.

This cake is a Chocolate cake with raspberry filling covered in fresh whipped cream.

This is another chocolate cake filled with chocolate mousse and chocolate shavings. The cake is finished in chocolate buttercream.

This beauty is a chocolate genoise cake with blackberry bavarian and fresh blackberries. Finished with fresh whipped cream.

MADLEY openning party Los Angeles

On December 2nd my great friend Caren celebrated the opeining of her botique MADLEY.
Caren and partner Coryn Madley opened their doors on Abott Kinney in Venice. They sell original designs, vintage and friend's fashions. A great place for one of a kind pieces and whimsical hand crafted jewlery.
I baked some yummy treats for guests to eat while shopping.
Mini molasses cookies, chocolate chip cookies and shortbread.
Along with some mini devil's food cupcakes with fresh goat cheese icing and garnish.

Layers of warm spicey carrot cake with raisins and walnuts.
Filled with caramel and cream cheese frosting. Melts in the mouth...hmmmm

This is a 10" cake and usually serves 16-18 people depending on the size of the slice.

This cake was made for a wedding tasting.

This cake is made from a rich buttery spice cake layered with cream cheese frosting flavored with maple, orange zest and a hint of spice and the middle layer in the cake refreshes the palat with a vibrant orange cream.

Hello everyone!
I just wanted to post a picture of the latest creation by This Little Cookie.
This cake is an Almond Blackberry cake. Oh how we love the summer season here.
All kinds of fresh berries and stone fruit.
The cake is layers of almond cake soaked in amaretto with fresh blackberry buttercream icing.
A little treat to munch on while celebrating with the Shiny Toy Guns in San Francisco.

Cookie Madness at Rainbow Grocery

Well this post is a little late but wanted to update the blog.
TLC had a little instore at Rainbow Grocery (www.rainbowgrocery.org)
on May 13th. We gave away many many cookies and sold many more!!
We hope to continue the growth here with your wonderful support.
Thanks to all you cookie eaters out there Rainbow has trippled their order over the past few months....we are really gaining some momentum now!!!

A little orange surprise

This is a little wedding cake I did for some friends. The only thing traditional about this cake is the white in the whipped cream frosting!!
The cake is layers of walnut cake soaked in orange syrup then filled with a thin layer of caramel and orange spice bavarian cream. Frosted in whipped cream with some finishing touches of candied sliced oranges, candied walnuts and sliced kumquats.
This one was really a shot in the dark and hurrahhh it worked out!! :o)

Yes, I am happy to announce that the Molasses and Shortbread cookies can be found near the register at Rainbow. A great place for all kinds of yummy and wholesome treats.

Otherwise Valentine's Day has been BUSY. Long hours and much scooping to keep all you cookie eaters satisfied. Also celebrated Valentine's early with the lovely owners of Herringbone and A La Folie in the East Bay. Both shops specialize in wonderful girlie things such as decadent lingerie and sexy lipsticks and shimmery eye candy. I recommend checking out both shops if you are in the East Bay......

Specialty Cakes

This is just a sample of the specialty cakes I can do...
The top cake is a butter vanilla cake soaked in brandy syrup and layered with honey caramel buttercream.
The bottom cake is a meyer lemon buttermilk cake soaked with prosecco syrup and layered with prosecco poached pears and lemon bavarian cream and then topped with fresh whipped cream and decoration.
All I ask is that you tell me your favorite flavors and then I love creating the desserts.

This website provides a space to buy our collection of delicious cookies, but I also do all sorts of specialty orders. I love to bake just about anything so if you are looking for a baked treat, dessert or selection of morning pastries or party favors just send me an email. I like to start from scratch with every project and I only like to work with seasonal ingredients. I was raised on quality food and I only want to provide you with quality goods. I keep things as organic and local as possible.
